Thierno Barry Career
Early Career
Thierno Barry was born in Lyon and began his football journey with SC Toulon before joining FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in 2021. He initially played for their reserve team in the Championnat National 3, where he consistently found the back of the net. Despite his strong performances at that level, Barry never made an appearance for the senior squad.
On July 6, 2022, Barry secured a two-year contract with Beveren in Belgium after impressing during a trial period. He enjoyed a prolific season, scoring 20 goals in all competitions, though the team narrowly missed out on promotion to the top tier.
FC Basel
Barry’s career took another step forward on July 3, 2023, when he joined Swiss Super League outfit FC Basel on a four-year contract. Under the guidance of head coach Timo Schultz, Barry became part of the first team for the 2023–24 campaign.
He made his league debut on July 22 in an away match against St. Gallen at the Kybunpark. However, the match didn’t go as planned, as Barry received a second yellow card in the 69th minute and was sent off in a 2–1 defeat for Basel.
Barry bounced back quickly by scoring his first goal for Basel just five days later, during the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round against Tobol of Kazakhstan on 27 July. However, the match took another turn when Barry received a straight red card, marking his second dismissal in as many competitive matches. Basel ultimately fell to a 3–1 defeat.
